Successful applicants are admitted as students for the PGCert in Software Engineering or the PGCert in Software and Systems Security. To graduate with a certificate, you must attend four courses, and complete the corresponding assignments, within two years of admission. If you choose three or more courses from the Security theme, then you may ask to be examined for a PGCert in Software and Systems Security, regardless of your entry award; similarly, if you choose three or more Object Technology courses (OOR, OOD, OOP, DPA, and SOA), then you may ask to be examined for a PGCert in Object Technology.

Assuming that you are making good progress, you may ask to transfer to the PGDip level. To graduate with a postgraduate diploma, you must attend eight courses, and complete the corresponding assignments, within three years of original admission. Any work that you have done towards any of the certificates will count towards the diploma.

You may also ask to transfer—from the Certificate or from the Diploma—to either of the MScs. Again, any work already done will count towards the MSc. To graduate with an MSc, you must attend ten courses, complete a project, and submit a short dissertation; for the Security MSc, the majority of these courses, and the project, must be on topics in security. You should aim to complete the MSc within four years of original admission, although a fifth year may be allowed if you need more time.
